This article aimed to understand how the creation of a cooperative organizational arrangement may contribute to the strengthening of family farming organizations, especially the Cooperativa de Crédito da Agricultura Familiar e Economia Solidária (Ecosol), and print a special character to the dynamics of local development on Espera Feliz, Minas Gerais. The results show that social interactions established between local organizations and the cooperative became a practical means of making the economic rationality of an instrument of strengthening cooperatives and local development.
