Multivariate statistical analysis for the study of socio-environmental in a metropolitan nucleus

Abstract:

Among the many needs in urban areas, there is access to basic sanitation, which should be one of the priorites in urban planning. The environmental impacts caused as a result of sanitation deficiencies put several people at risk in a given location. The Grande Rosa Elze is the largest urban center in the municipality of São Cristóvão and constitutes an area that faces problems in basic sanitation services, due to the inadequate development related to the irregular provision of these services. Given this situation, this study aims to analyze the residents’ perception of the Grande Rosa Elze, in order to verify the relationship of actions involving sanitation services, with the possible impacts caused in the area. The method used to explain this relationship consists of the multivariate statistics tool, cluster analysis, which performs the hierarchy of the pointed-out problems. The results showed that the lack of access to the sewage network influences several problems in the population’s conception, mainly flooding problems in rainy periods. In view of this study, it is possible to perceive that it is of significant importance to apply mitigations that improve access to basic sanitation services, as well as the priority correction of actions that cause the problems mentioned.
