CECI N’EST PAS VINGT CENTS: ODD OBJECT, REREADING AND EVENT IN THE PROTESTS OF JUNE 2013

Abstract

This work focuses on the image Ceci n'est pas vingt cents, which circulated in the protests of June 2013, as part of the events that marked this episode. The image is a re-reading of the painting La trahison des images (1928/1929), by René Magritte, known by the statement that integrates it, Ceci n'est pas une pipe. The research works on Freud's (1969) concept of odd, related to what mobilizes the production of languages and what escapes the discourse, and in the tradition of French-oriented Discourse Analysis, examines the image as a locus of a memory discourse. The article also mobilizes readings by Foucault (2001), who denatures the function of language in Magritte's work, and by Lacan (2005) on object the [a] - which mobilizes the saying, but is invisible in it. The analysis allowed gauging the image as a significant materiality that evidences the discursive displacement to the production of new senses.
