Sudden death and Chagas' disease. Analysis of predisponent factors of sudden death of chronic Chagas' patients

One hundred and sixteen cases of chagasics who had sudden death were taken in order to analize some aspects to clear up the sudden death mechanism in chronic chagasics, such as: sex, age at death, profession, the role emotion and physical effort at the moment of death, and the relation between death and the seasons of the year. All of these trypanosomotics patients upparently, did not show any symptons and/or signals of heart failure in life. For a comparative analisys, a group of chronic chagasics that died from or after failure was used. The data showed that death (in chagasics who had sudden death as much as in chagasics who had heart failure) is more frequent in men than women and it occurs earlier in male chagasics who had sudden death than in those trypanosomotics individuals whose death was associated or preceeded by heart failure. Finally, our data suggest that physical effort, emotional factors and season variation do not play essential roles in the unchaiment of the chronic chagasic death.
