Abstract:

Objective:To understand everyday representations of mental health workers about leisure, drugs and education. Method: Emancipatory Action Research developed in ten workshops with 11 participants working at mental health services. The analysis was based on the theory of everyday representations. Results: The dominant mentality about drug users and drug education was revealed as associated with a conservative and prohibitionist perspective. The forms of therapeutic leisure traditionally adopted in health services were critically represented as a method for controlling users. Conclusions: The adoption of emancipatory leisure workshops is recommended in health services focused on alcohol and other drugs.
