ABSTRACT
The text discusses the problematic association between the notions of memory and technique in reports done by institutions responsible for big dams. By analising electric sector documents related to the Tucuruí hydroelectric dam construction, the text stresses the way that the methodological oblivion of the memory of social groups affected by the dam impacts leads to the (mis)understanding of social issues raised by huge infrastructure projects as simple instrumental problems to be “solved”.
