O mercado de trabalho antes de 1930: emprego e "desemprego" na cidade de São Paulo

This article seeks to depict the city of São Paulo’s labour market in the period before the 1930s, sheding light on the social groups that shaped its formation and stressing its main characteristics in terms of occupational structure. It describes a situation of extreme labour instability and flexibility, which are somewhat linked to a structural and congenital excess of labour force.
