This paper uses an ethnographic approach in arder to capture the complexities that surround work in family businesses. Our approach enables us to concentrate on how owner-managers are able to construct the fabric of their daily lives by referring to mundane events, how they weave together stories at the human levei drawing upon images of everyday routines such as the family meal, opening and closing time, the school run, or doing the books.
