Social prejudice on the Internet: propagation of prejudice and social segregation from an analysis of sites and social networks

The objective of this work was to discuss prejudice and social inequality on the Internet from an analysis of social networks sites considering Brazilian users. The paper analyzes the discourse against the entrance of Orkut participants on Twitter and also evaluates Elysiants, the first luxury online community in the world, aimed at the creation of network composed only by wealthy people. Among other findings, it presents some results that suggest a cyberspace territorialization, such as a physical geographic division in North and South zones for the less favored (Orkut), and more favored (Twitter, Elysiants), respectively.
