Biomedical text mining: a bibliometrics review

Text mining has being increasingly used to automate the process of extracting the relevant information contained in biomedical texts, enabling researchers to stay abreast of the development of biomedicine. Taking into account the importance of this research field, this paper presents a map of scientific publications on biomedical text mining and discusses the main activities in this field in which the researchers have devoted attention. Thus, we used bibliometrics, a technique that allows us to analyze the development of a field of science to identify its characteristics. The mapping presented promotes knowledge about the history and current state of the research field. Also, it provides inputs aiming to enrich the discussion on possible directions that researches in the area have taken as well as likely scientific trends for researchers and interested in the subject.
