Female leadership in the management of university libraries in Santa Catarina

ABSTRACT

Leadership is one of the essential skills for management in the corporate world today. To understand what women, think about leadership in the management process of a university library, a survey was carried out on essential resources to lead and, finally, it describes the challenges and leadership apprentices in the research view. Methodologically, this is exploratory research, with a qualitative approach, carried out by bibliographic survey in databases, a data collection detected through interviews with nine professionals who occupy and occupy the general management of university libraries of public administration (UFSC and UDESC), from 2008 to 2018. No data processing used the thematic analysis by Braun and Clarke (2006). Conclude that being a leader is inspiring people, promoting an involvement, harmonious and collaborative environment for the work team in an integrated way. To do this, you need to develop skills such as communication, interpersonal relationships, optimism, flexibility, empathy, emotional intelligence and conflict mediation. Anyway, the challenges are very much in the view of the interviewees, who point out knowledge about processes, people and the functioning of the university, skills in dealing with egos, such as resistance and demotivation in the team, who know how to perceive the strengths and weaknesses of each professional.
