Organizational communication and information and communication technologies (ICTs) in hospital management

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the role of communication and the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in supporting managerial decision making in hospitals. It was conducted a qualitative and descriptive case study, in four teaching hospitals of high complexity, members of the InovarH Network / Ba. The results indicate that: a) the communication activities are seen as fundamental to the development of administrative and care processes, however communication is fragmented and ICTs are little used, b) the use of ICT products by the high-level and continuing education facilitates its uses, c) the lack of understanding of the directors and doctors as to the nature of networking is one aspect of the non-use of ICTs.
