Psychologists' Choice of Pursuing the Master's Degree in Psychology

Psychologists' professional choices are permeated by social conditions, which are enabled by the labor market and the professional field that influences psychology as a science and profession. This study's objective was to investigate psychologists' choice of pursuing a stricto sensupostgraduate program in psychology. The participants comprised 29 psychology students from a master's program at a federal university who answered a questionnaire regarding their decision-making process. The data analysis demonstrated that 29% of the participants cited the desire of acting as docents, while 10% mentioned the objective of working as researchers. Based on a socio-historical approach, it is also possible to notice how the working and education conditions from the beginning of the 21st century altered the participants' importance regarding stricto sensuprofessional qualification and the quality of its insertion into the field of psychology.
