Work and Organizational Psychology: Experience Report on Supervised Internship

Abstract

This report on supervised internship in Work and Organizational Psychology (WOP) involves a group of students at a Higher Education School (HES) in the State of Espírito Santo. Its main objective was to discuss the influence of theoretical and practical aspects on student formation in psychology, focusing on the supervised internship. In addition to providing an experience report, a survey was conducted with former students about the internship’s contributions to their educational and professional training. The survey found the following: The inauguration of the National Curriculum Guidelines (NCG) constituted a milestone in courses’ curricular flexibility; as a curricular component, the internship integrates instruction, research, and practice; and student internship in WOP requires multidisciplinary knowledge. Along with these aspects, it was observed that the practice of supervised internship indicates a rupture with the psychologist’s negative image in WOP, limited by the application of tests and psychological instruments. In fact, psychologists’ activity in WOP proved much broader and more complex, especially in their intervention’s impact within the organizational environment.
