“I can see myself as being two or three or more”: a few reflections on contemporary subjectivity

The present paper aims at developing a few reflections on the subjective consequences of the transformations - social, economical, political, technological, etc. - that the world has been facing in the last decades. For this purpose, the models proposed by Fredric Jameson and Sherry Turkle to describe contemporary subjectivity are presented. This presentation is followed by the report of an investigation carried out with Brazilian users of the internet, which is considered one of the conditions of possibility of the reality in our days. Two groups of users with very different characteristics emerge from its results. Such characteristics are analyzed in reference to Jameson’s and Turkle’s theoretical conceptions.
