New reality: new dangers and new kinds of defence

National and international media constantly report several kinds of danger allegedly due to the use of the Internet. Underlying such reports, there seems to be an assumption which is challenging to Psychology: the assumption that we are defenseless when dealing with the new reality of cyberspace. Unexpected results stemming from research on the intensive use of the Internet have, however, revealed this assumption to be unwarranted. These results show that new self-protection strategies, aimed mainly at the preservation of intimacy, have already been developed. These strategies involve different kinds of use of the very software and technological tools available.
