Corn hybridis response to nicosulfuron: I. Biological and production aspects

Field research was conducted during 1994/95 at Jaboticabal, SP, Brazil, on the School and Research Farm of the Faculty of Agrarian and Veterinary Sciences, UNESP, in order to compare the responses on yield and biological aspects of nine corn hybrids submitted to nicosulfuron {2-[[[[ (4,6 - dimethoxy - 2- pyrimidinyl) amino] carbonyl] amino] sulfonyl] - N, N - dimethyl-3-pyridinecarboxiamide} treatment 80 g.ha-1, related with the corresponding check. The herbicide significantly affected some of the bilogical studied aspects (plant and ear height, leaves number, leaves length and width, and the final stand). Ear relative position, stalk diameter, stalk lodging and breaking percentages of plants treated with nicosulfuron was not different from that of the untreated control. The estimated yield of the corn hybrids treated weren't affected by the product, with the exception of HT 2X estimated production.

Zea mays; postemergence herbicide; sulfonylureia
