Recognition at work: contemporary views and contemporary issues

In the past two decades, the subject of recognition became an important political-sciences key for understanding several contemporary social phenomena. Particularly in the field of organizations and work psychology, the subject's relevance makes itself felt through the growing number of studies dedicated to understanding its relationships with topics such as identity, suffering, health, motivation, and the perception of justice and reciprocity in the inter-subject relationships within organizations. The purpose of this paper is to provide a joint evaluation of perspectives of recognition in the workplace. More specifically, the paper discusses the views of social theory, which helped establish the epistemological status of recognition in today's philosophical and social scene; of organizations psychology; and two perspectives from the work clinics field: psychodynamics and clinic of activity. The paper ends with a reflection on the concepts developed according to the various views, proposing critical questions for the investigation of the recognition-work relationship in today's organizations and work psychology field in Brazil.
