Accessibility and permanence in higher education: perception of students with disabilities

Abstract

The present study aimed to verify how students with disabilities from a Public Institution of Higher Education of a city in the Paraná state perceive the real conditions of access and permanence in the university. Therefore, a survey of Brazilian public policies on school education of students with disabilities was carried out, as well as the resolutions of the institution studied related to the accessibility of these students; in the sequence, interviews with students with disabilities of this university were carried out. The data collected through the institution's resolutions and interviews were analyzed and correlated with each other. The results show that, in relation to the theme, this institution is adapting to what is required by the public inclusion policies, especially regarding accessibility to Higher Education, however it demonstrates limits on the conditions of permanence, making it difficult for these students to accessibility to knowledge.
