Loyalty to an agreement between students

Abstract

With this study we aimed to find out if students considered loyalty more important value than honesty and truthfulness. The group studied was comprised of 40 students enrolled in Elementary Education II in a city in São Paulo state. To collect information, we use two short stories about loyalty, which served as the starting point for the interview, according to Piaget's model. The results showed the following: a) loyalty, to be conceived as value does not depend on the content, but the generating consequences to others; b) it appears to be independent of the school experience; and c) the girls are inclined to see, more than boys, loyalty to an agreement as a value, while condemning its content and be more sensitive to its results. We conclude that, despite the results, loyalty must be conceived as an important asset for students.
