Institutional Support in Primary Health Care: analysis of the reported effects

Abstract

The article maps the effects associated with the intervention of institutional support in primary health care in Brasil, in order to identify the scope and issues relevant to its consolidation. We carried out a bibliographic research, in CAPES Journals Portal and in the Virtual Library of Health, between January of 2016 and October of 2017. The empirical corpus of the research comprised 68 documents. The literature confirms the movement of institutionalization of this management support in the scope of health primary care, enabling us to see its advances, difficulties and contradictions. The changes reported suggest that the methodology promotes real impacts on social practices that permeate the daily life of health services. They also point to promising perspectives for changes in the organizational culture of these institutions. However, they highlight the challenge of heightening the political and cultural dimensions and implications of this form of intervention, so that they are not molded and directed only at the qualification of work processes and can intervene substantively in the democratization of health institutions.
