Thermal and mechanical caracterization of polyuretane composites with Curaua fibers

This work is aimed at investigating the thermal properties, the mechanism of thermal degradation and the reaction mechanisms of polyurethane composites with different proportions of curaua fiber (5, 10 and 15%w/w). The samples were characterized by thermal analysis techniques such as: TG, DTG, DTA and DSC and mechanical properties (tensile strength, elongation at break and Young´s modulus). Polyurethane composites were degraded in two stages and showed three temperatures of glass transition, since the material exhibits flexible and rigid segments. The addition of curaua fiber into PU composites yields an increase in the Young´s modulus and a decrease in the elongation at break.
