ABSTRACT: In this work a rewiew is presented on the fire behaviour of polymeric material, with focus on the antagonism commonly observed when dealing with aspects related to the flame retardance and smoke emission characteristics of the compounds developed with concern for fire preventions. Also, a brief description of the tests utilized to measure the main aspects of fire behaviour of polymer materials is presented along with a list of some of the principle international standards in this field.
