Science fiction novels possibilities for education: reading Verne, Wells, Asimov and Clarke

Abstract

In this article, we share the results of a research about a group of science fiction novels and its possibilities for science education. Pérez, Montoro, Alís, Cachapuz and Praia synthesize seven misconceptions of science that we used to build categories for a content analysis. The epistemology of Fourez was also an important perspective to this work. As a general result, we indicate a number of connections between science, technology and society (STS), that may be explored in science teaching context, in order to promote an education for citizenship. That is why we could establish good connections between this research and the work of Santos and Mortimer, in which they discuss the theoretical assumptions for STS approach.
