Fatherhood experience in infant's third month

The study investigated the experience of fatherhood in the baby's third month. Participants included 38 married primiparous fathers, aged 20 to 40 years old, who answered a semistructured interview. A content analysis was carried out comprising four categories: Perceptions about their own fatherhood, Living with the child, Living with the wife, and Parental models. The results showed fatherhood is an experience full of positive feelings, satisfaction and desire for greater involvement in the child's live. Difficulties reported were related to care and daily situations with their child revealing fatherhood can be tiring and arduous. The fathers' experience was discussed in light of the new ideal of fatherhood in our society.
