Family configuration and adolescents’ psychological well-being

The search for welfare is the motor to human development. It is the search for well-being that makes humankind struggle for its ideals. The development of this capacity is closely related to the early experiences that one has in his/her family. Thus, this study investigated to what extent the family configuration contributes to the adolescents well-being. The sample had 391 adolescents, of which 196 were from intact families and 195 from remarried families. Goldberg’s (1978) General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) was used, subdivided into 12 items. Results showed that most adolescents (81%) presented a general well-being level ranging from good to very good. There was no significant difference between adolescents from intact and remarried families.
