Issues about the relationship between perception and language

In the study of human perception its phenomenal character mediated by language has been privileged. The work of Luria stands out in that field. However, any attempt to discuss this issue in runs across several impasses, derived from an instrumental conception of the language which underlies that mediation hypothesis. Thus, the rising of issues concerning the relationship between the two phenomena in the field of language acquisition - as well as the analysis of children’s verbal productions in the early moments of their linguistic course - returned to the field of Perceptual Psychology. Therefore, based on this perspective, a proposal can be made for the substitution of the instrumental status of language for one which takes its autonomy into account. This could be the starting point to achieve coherence with the hypothesis of linguistic mediation of the perceptual phenomenon.
