The purpose of this study was to understand social representations of the elders from Fernando de Noronha-PE-Brazil about violence in old age. The sample was non-probabilistic, intentional and accidental, composed by 50 elderly subjects from both genders (60% female and 40% male), mean age about 64 years old, who answered the Semi-Structured Interview and the Free Word Association Test. Data obtained by TFAW were analyzed by the software Tri-Deux-Mots through factor analysis of correspondence, and the interview was analyzed by the Analysis of the Content of Bardin (2002). It was observed that violence against elderly people has been recorded in terms of abandonment, neglect, physical aggression and disrespect. Preventive measures against violence in old age were represented by complaint, punishment, public policy and care.
