The purchasing management (PM) evolution in a stationery products company: a longitudinal case study

This work presents and analyzes, through a longitudinal case study method, a new form of purchasing management in a stationery products company. The enterprise looks for a higher organizational strategy alignment in order to guarantee its leadership. The results showed an evolution regarding all the seven variables studied: strategic level of development of the purchasing function; goals to be achieved; alignment between PM and Quality Management; alignment between PM and Production Planning and Control; ability level required of the PM workers; number and specificity of the performance indicators used by the PM area. The results can be useful to enterprises with the same characteristics or inserted in the same process of change. Also, the paper contributes to reduce the gap between theory and practice in Purchasing Management area, showing a real case where some of the PM modern practices were implemented.
