Psychology as social science

Psychology played an important role in society during the 20th century, helping to build the world and the people we became. In that sense, it established itself as a "social science", promoting a "psychologization" of individual and public lives; inventing and transforming several ideas in psychological terms. This text aims at understanding this evolution of psychology which found its space as a regulation technique, a presumed knowledge about people with an institutional objective of managing, shaping and reforming them. It discusses social psychology of post-war periods with its attitude researches and works about groups; reaching its climax with the notion of enterprise, building and regulating human actions. It ends with a discussion over the importance of the biological body in the 21st century, in which new technologies of image, biological psychiatry, neurochemistry and neurobiology emerge at the same time that brainhood is strengthened.
