YOUTH AND PARTICIPATION: UNDERSTANDING OF POLITICS, VALUES AND SOCIAL PRACTICES

Abstract

This paper refers to the final results of the study about youth and its relation with political participation, from which we sought to understand the different forms of insertion and action of young people in different groups and movements, taking into account, mainly, their understanding of politics and the values and conceptions which guide their practices. For this purpose, 13 youths aged between 18 and 29 were interviewed, being that all of them were members of groups and movements from different kinds of activism: political, religious and cultural. We have concluded that politics have been perceived from a heterogeneous standpoint which expresses the diversity of possibilities of being and living the youth, and the insertion of these youths in distinct groups says much about their understanding of politics and their ideals of participation.
