Typing and data entry keyers: changes in occupational identity

The article focuses the occupation of data entry keyers, the base of the occupational system that organized computer work in seventies and eighties. Based in a qualitative research realized in the city of Goiania, deals with changes in the occupational identity in data entry keyers due to the technical development of information and communication systems. The inquiry analyses the conditions of imputation and acknowledgement of a vocabulary of motives that is internalized by data entry workers. This vocabulary refers to specific social situations, concerned to changes in computer work organization that include the shifting of data entry keyers to other work sectors ou occupations, like word processor typing.
