SOCIAL REPRESENTATIONS RESEARCH IN THE JOURNAL PSICOLOGIA & SOCIEDADE

ABSTRACT

Our aim was to characterize the existing papers on Social Representations Theory (SRT) published in the journal Psicologia & Sociedade between 1996 and 2015, assessing in 55 papers: (a) type of paper; (b) first author's institution; (c) first author's geographic location; (d) first author's field of knowledge; and (e) research object themes. A comparison of the papers from the studied decades showed a substantial increase of published papers, going from 14 in the first one to 41 in the second. Empirical studies prevailed, especially in the second studied decade. Authors from the Southeast and Northeast of Brazil represented more than half of the total production. Over 20% of the publications presented first authors working from abroad. A strong variation of the studied themes was found, stressing the topics of health, culture and social groups. Psicologia & Sociedade has been a vehicle for empirical SRT studies.
