ATTENTION, CHILDHOOD AND EDUCATIONAL CONTEXTS

Abstract

This article is aimed at analyzing the concept of attention and its connections to the educational field. We invest on the understanding of this concept, seeking to identify the simplification trend that is present in the discourse regarding lack of attention as a reference to reflect on children and school processes. The historical field was chosen as the fundamental device for this argumentative framework because there are several possibilities of meanings given to the words that are emphasized in everyday life, in the relations established in the discourses and in its manifested existence. From Foucault's thought, the text presents a synthesis of a research process on the theme and highlights an investment in the process of redefining the meaning of attention. We also seek to problematize the emphasis on lack of attention and the medicalization of daily living.
