THE USE OF FOUCAULT IN PSYCHOLOGY STUDIES IN BRAZIL

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the use of Foucault's contributions in articles published in journals of Psychology. We selected 64 articles for our bibliographical sample, in which there is a prevalence of theoretical studies over the empirical ones. In theoretical articles the theme of subjectivity is central, while the empirical ones approach public policies, such as those of health and security. Two questions guide the analysis: (a) what are the reasons for the extensive use of Foucault in Psychology? (b) how the Foucaultian framework is used? We focused on quantitative aspects to support the discussion. A pluralistic political approach initiated by Foucault composes the reasons for the interest of Brazilian psychologists in his work. The analyzed articles contain many references to Foucault's text, but are not supported by contemporary literature about his framework, which indicates a poor dialogue with the scientific production in the area.
