The elderly and the emotional resignification of leisure

Today's society is being challenged to respond qualitatively to the demands of science, technology and automation, affecting the various dimensions of man. One of these dimensions, the increase in longevity, requests politics and social programs focusing life quality, including leisure ambit. This study aimed to identify emotional aspects of elderly perception during leisure activities. Data were collected through a mixed questionnaire, applied to a sample of 20 individuals of both sexes, and descriptively analyzed using Content Analysis Technique. They show recurrences of positive grow in many aspects such as interpersonal relationship and mutual respect, contemplation, sense of harmony with nature, and playfulness, among others, which are also responsible for the affective bond of the group. It has been concluded that significant experiences during leisure time, which are capable of contemplating men's necessities and expectations in cultural contents, can contribute to emotional resignification of leisure in this phase of the development.
