The article presents psychotherapy researches and it intends to offer a qualitative view of the field development and tendencies. It analyses nine special sections about this issue, published from 1981 to 1994, in a journal of the American Psychological Association (APA), which is considered the top in psychotherapy research. It verifies the emphasis on scientific evidences searching and the articulation of research and clinical practice. The article also observes a great production in this period of time and a progress in this field, especially in single-case methodology. The core questionings still challenge the researchers.
