ABSTRACT
The present study aimed to investigate educational and sociodemografic characteristics of young Brazilians workers and non-workers. The sample was composed of 7,425 individuals (45.8% male), between 14 and 24 years old (M=16.19; SD=1.82). Results indicated that the group of non-workers presented higher frequencies and mean scores for the variables School Grade, Weekdays Frequenting School, and Perception of School; and lower frequencies in the variable School Failing when compared with the group of workers. Further, non-worker's parents presented higher educational level than the workers' parents did. These results demonstrated the existence of a relationship between school difficulties and youth labour, and the necessity of young individuals to be psychologically prepared to manage school and work activities without injuring their performance.
