Gender Violence and Perpetrators: Representations of Health Professionals

Abstract

This research aimed to understand the social representations of health professionals about the violence against women and the male perpetrators. For this purpose, 25 health professionals were interviewed using a semistructured interview guide. The data were analyzed according to the thematic content analysis using the Iramuteq software. The results showed that the social representation of violence against women was objectified in physical violence and anchored on aggression. And the male perpetrator of this violence was objectified in the figure of the cowardly. The professional practices related to episodes of violence are still incipient. Therefore, we emphasize the importance of investing in professional training to contribute with the professional routine in this theme.
