Relationship between personality traits measured by psychological tests and astrological signs

Astrology is widespread in popular knowledge, especially regarding typical characteristics of the signs. The present study aimed to analyze the results of a personality inventory to verify whether signs differ in psychological traits. Participants were 505 people, both genders (70.5% were women) with age varying between 16 and 63 (M=25.64; SD=8.66), who responded the Personality Factorial Battery (PFB), an instrument based on the Five Factor Model. The signs were evaluated according to the 12 sun signs proposed by Astrology and the 13 zodiacal constellations observed by Astronomy. The correlation analysis do not showed the expected patterns based on Astrology, i.e., the correlations between signs and personality facets do not corroborated the Astrology's proposals. A more detailed analysis of the scores revealed a lack of validity evidence for attributing psychological characteristics based on sun sign.
