  • EVOLUÇÃO E INOVAÇÃO NO SETOR QUÍMICO BRASILEIRO: UMA VISÃO DOS ÚLTIMOS QUARENTA ANOS Assuntos Gerais

    Galembeck, Fernando

    Resumo em Inglês:

The Brazilian chemical community shows positive characteristics that improved significantly during the past forty years: the scientific output is substantial, it contributes positively to the position of this country in the innovation rankings, the chemical companies create and export technologies and the larger share of post-graduates employed by the Brazilian industry works in chemical or chemistry-based companies. The chemical sector is thus an exception within the country, together with agrosciences. These facts are unexpected, considering that chemical companies do not occupy leading positions in the rankings based on patent filing and other innovation indicators, throughout the world. This article describes the context of Brazilian chemistry in the middle 1970s, the the well-designed government actions that mobilized academic researchers and industry professionals to build complex converging scenarios and a positive S&T culture that is matched in few other areas, in this country.

Nascentes, Clésia Cristina; Korn, Maria das Graças Andrade; Zanoni, Maria Valnice Boldrin

    Resumo em Inglês:

This work describes the development of Analytical Chemistry in Brazil from the Brazilian Chemical Society (SBQ) foundation to the present days. Important historical facts were highlighted and data on the human resources formation, financial investments and scientific production were used to evaluate and contextualize the progress achieved. The evolution of the scientific events of the area was also presented. The survey shows that Analytical Chemistry has advanced a lot in these 40 years, occupying a prominent position in the international scenario. This growth is mainly due to the formation of qualified human resources, the organization of scientific societies and inductive policies. It was also verified that the quantitative advance was greater than the qualitative one. Thus, one of the challenges for the next years is to work at the knowledge frontier and increases the quality and impact of scientific production in Analytical Chemistry. The evolution of the area into current trends such as Nanoscience, Microfluidic, Omics, Chemometric, Green Chemistry and Chemical Speciation is also presented and discussed.

In this work, we aim to draw a panorama of the chemistry teaching area and its relation with the teaching division in SBQ 40 years. We start from the analysis of the Chemistry Teaching National Meetings in the last 15 years in comparison with those occurred in the 80’s and 90’s. Then, we present the growth of the chemistry teaching regional meetings and their capacity to congregate researchers and students in a decentralized way, important to the inclusion of new chemical educators. We discuss the scientific journals in the area considering the research on various themes. Finally, we analyze the growth of chemistry degree courses in Brazil and the number of researchers in the area, as well as the main themes explored by the research field of Chemistry Teaching in Brazil.

    Resumo em Inglês:

Electrochemistry and Electroanalytical chemistry play an important role to face the challenges of the contemporary world. They have contributed to the advance of the scientific development of our country, helped to promote economic and social progress as well as cultural dissemination. These areas have greatly contributed to the knowledge about thermodynamics and kinetics of the electron transfer reactions, energy conversion, synthesis and modification of compounds, corrosion, and development of fast, sensitive, and selective analytical methods. This work presents an overview of the areas by analyzing the technical and scientific papers produced in Brazil on these subjects, and the analysis of the Brazilian scientific societies that were formed and consolidated, which have contributed to spread the scientific knowledge. The improvement of these areas can be attributed to the good quality of the human resources formed during long time as well as the growing of distribution of research groups in different regions of the country. The success/future of these areas are associated with good academic/scientific education, low cost of instrumentation, formation of networks of excellence between researchers, and large cooperation projects that improved with the sharing of ideas, technologies, infrastructure, and equipment. All of which has contributed to strengthening consolidated and emerging graduation programs.

    Resumo em Inglês:

One of the goals of this manuscript is to celebrate the forty years of the SBQ (Sociedade Brasileira de Química). We believe using historical analysis could benefit our researchers to overcome the challenges ahead, look into the future, to the scientific progress and the way science increases its problem-solving ability. There are several topics covered by the challenges in Physical Chemistry: nanoscience and nanotechnology, single molecule studies, gas phase photochemistry and photophysics, molecular structure, spectroscopy, reaction dynamics, interfacial phenomena, energy, and so on. However, the critical challenge for our Division still is to create a desired link between experimental approaches and theoretical knowledge.

Nakagaki, Shirley; Ucoski, Geani Maria; Rebouças, Julio S.; Ferreira, Ana Maria da Costa

    Resumo em Inglês:

The present article describes the development of the Inorganic Chemistry in Brazil in the last 15 years, using as starting point the scientific contributions of a group of 405 researchers selected among the members of the Inorganic Chemistry Division of the Brazilian Chemical Society (SBQ), and active participants of both SBQ Annual Meetings and Brazilian Meetings on Inorganic Chemistry. A total of 3006 articles, representative of the Brazilian scientific production on Inorganic Chemistry from 2002 to January 2017, was analyzed. Among the various aspects evaluated are: prevalent research topics, production impact, geographic distribution within Brazil, international collaborations, and human resource background, development, and perspectives. The evolution of the Inorganic Chemistry production in Brazil in the last 15 years was analyzed considering the concurrent expansion of Brazilian graduate and post-graduate educational system along with availability of funding resources. Information from sources such as CAPES, Sucupira database, eMEC, Web of Science, and CNPq, complemented the scientific production data gathered from the Curriculum Vitae (Lattes Curriculum database) of the 405 representative inorganic chemistry researchers. The present analysis expands the previous 1977-2001 study by Toma, Ferreira, and Serra (Quim. Nova 2002, 25, 66), depicting, thus, a 40-year scenery of Inorganic Chemistry in Brazil, which overlaps with the period of activity of SBQ.
