CHOICE ABOUT ADMINISTRATION PROGRAM: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS BETWEEN A PUBLIC AND A PRIVATE INSTITUTION IN THE STATE OF PARAÍBA (PB)

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this article is to verify the factors that influenced both the students of a public university and from private institution in the State of Paraíba (PB), Brazil, when they choose to get in some Administration course. The research involved 334 students with 194 from public and 140 from private institutions. The students were chosen randomly. An objective questionnaire with 53 questions was used in order to collect the data. The analysis of the data was developed using the SPSS program, through which, distributions of frequencies and the tests non-parametric of Mann-Whitney and Qui-square of Pearson were accomplished. The main reason that took the students to look for enroll an Administration course was to obtain a degree in order to develop a future profession. The more important sources of information used for the choice of this course were the magazines and books about Administration. The most important factors for the choice of this program were the interest for the area, the satisfactory professional development, the safe of this professional position, and obtaining a degree with a whole prospective.
