Students' competency-based formation? a study in business administration undergraduate courses

The recent proposals for changing the national education system, which follow the international trends in education for the twenty-first century, have assumed the notion of competencies to guide curricular organization and pedagogical projects on all educational levels in this country. Taking this into account, we have proposed the inclusion of such a "notion" in undergraduate Business Administration courses, aiming to contribute with reflections on competency formation. This is a qualitative research, based on multiple case studies, carried out in eight Higher Education Schools in the city of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais state. The outcomes have shown a tendency to adopt a knowledge transmission model rather competency formation. Furthermore, a proposal that might articulate the competencies to be developed through a teaching practice has not been verified so far. Therefore it cannot be stated that the courses studied have been involved with forming competencies in their students.
