STRATEGIES OF GROWTH: THE ALTERNATIVE OF MERGERS AND ACQUISITIONS

ABSTRACT

This work shows the priority reasons in the usage of Mergers and Acquisistions towards the company growth. Besides, the practical results obtanained from this strategy were evaluated.

An exploratory study, through a qualitative research was developed based on autoparts industry located in San Paolo, Brazil.

Highly qualified managers of this sector were interviewed. Theoretical basis for the results evaluation was a SWOT matrix of business strategy.

Conclusions of this research show that the main reasons for the usage of Mergers and Acquisitions are portfolio products enlargement, essential competences increasing and innovation.

Besides, a reliable positioning of the executives was detected, considering the effectiveness of growth through Mergers and Acquisistions.
