Maracanã stadium: the foundations to the Colossus of Derby

Abstract

The sports constructions, which are genuine temples of the sport, are examples of places with symbolic meanings, cultural and emotional. Places that make up a consciousness that crosses generations, building a social memory full of representations. This article aims to analyze the reports published on the Journal of Sports about the Journalist Mario Filho Stadium – Maracanã, from the time of the initial project discussions until his inauguration, realizing, through a content analysis (Bardin, 2011), how these reports were significant in transforming the stadium into a national symbol.
