Abstract
This research aims to analyze the chronicles of Nelson Motta related to World Cup of 1982, in order to understand what were the impressions of the author about the World Championship, as well as about the Brazilian team. To this end, it was based on the principles of literary analysis proposed by Antonio Candido (1992Candido A, et al. A crônica. Campinas: Unicamp; 1992.; 2000)Candido A, et al. Literatura e sociedade. 8ª ed. São Paulo: Publifolha; 2000., which talks about the merger between text (linked to the aesthetic autonomy of the author) and context (social moment that the writer and his works belong). From the analysis of these chronicles is possible to note the enchantment of Motta for the Brazilian national team, and the reverberation of a Freyrean theory.
