Physical Education/Sport Sciences is still an incipient field of knowledge in which scientific journals have an important role to play: to contribute to the definition and legitimation of the field and to establish criteria of quality to carry out and to publish researches. The objective of the present essay is to identify and discuss some difficulties and challenges in publishing journals to accomplish this role and to present suggestions concerning types of journals to attend not only academic but also professional demands of the field.
