Abstract
The intention of this essay is to rescue the history of the dispute in subfield political/bureaucratic of the sport and recreation, highlighting some tensions, rivalries, actions and measures, especially in the genesis of the subfield, which may serve as an input for future reflections of public policies of the sport and leisure in Brazil. To that end, we performed a critical rereading of some relevant works dealing with the matter from the perspective of the constitution of the subfield, especially in the theoretical assumptions supported by Pierre Bourdieu and Norbert Elias.
