Primórdios do jiu-jitsu e dos confrontos intermodalidades no Brasil: contestando uma memória consolidada

Abstract

This study aims to present a new possibility of understanding the beginnings of jiu-jitsu and the intermodality clashes in Brazil. Nowadays, several references (books, newspapers, magazines, sites) show a hegemonic discourse, which attributes to Count Koma and members of Gracie family the foundation of such modalities in the country. In order to question the hegemonic history, it was used the methodological procedure of the indiciary paradigm, by analyzing news from the beginning of the 20th century. The analysis of the sources differs from the current predominant version and provides new knowledge about the introduction of jiu-jitsu and intermodality clashes in Brazil.
