Motivational aspects of male judo practitioners

Abstract

Motivation is one of the determinant factors for human behavior. The present study aimed to investigate the main factors that motivated the practice of judo in adult males, as well as differences in these factors in relation to age. The study included 110 men aged between 18 and 62 years. The instrument used was the Motivation Inventory of Physical Activity and Sport. Data analysis was performed through descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed significant differences (p <0.05) between the motivation dimensions. The most motivating dimensions were pleasure, followed by health and sociability. On the other hand, the least motivating was competitiveness.
